Powerball officials drew the winning numbers Wednesday night in a $189 million lottery as the twice-weekly game continues to build more than a month after the richest drawing in history.

The winning numbers were 29-27-7-40-17, with the red Powerball being 25.

If taken as a lump sum, as most recent big lottery winners have chosen to do, Wednesday’s jackpot would be worth almost $126 million, with federal taxes quickly taking almost 40 percent of that amount and state taxes a possibility on top of that.

The $2 tickets are sold in 44 states, along with the District of Columbia and some U.S. territories.

Nobody has won Powerball since a record $1.6 billion jackpot was split three ways on Jan. 13.

On Wednesday, the second of those three winners stepped forward, as husband David Kaltschmidt and wife Maureen Smith of Melbourne Beach, Florida, claimed their prize, which they took as a $327.8 million lump sum.

They told reporters at Florida Lottery headquarters that they are claiming their only prize now because they wanted to set up security at their house and find an accountant.

The winning ticket sold in Chino Hills, California, remains unclaimed.
