There is something I want to say to Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney: Thank you. As a Muslim I am deeply humbled by Mr. Kenney’s recent remarks about Islam (“Philadelphia police say suspect shot officer in Islam’s name, pledged allegiance to ISIS,” Web, Jan. 8).

Mr. Kenney stood up for what is right and was willing to take on presidential candidates that often skew the news in their favor. In the Koran it states, “And create not disorder in the earth after it has been set in order.” Mr. Kenney recognizes that Philadelphia shooting suspect Edward Archer does not represent Islam. Rather, Mr. Kenney understands that Archer is just a criminal who got ahold of a stolen gun.

I am a member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and we are building a mosque in the city of Philadelphia. I want to welcome Mayor Kenney to come to our inauguration once the mosque is complete. I sincerely appreciate Mr. Kenney’s saying the right thing. That is not always an easy task.
