For Toyota Scion fans, take heed as the peppy little urban head turner has two offerings for 2016. Whether you want a Scion sedan or a hatchback, you got it.

The 2016 Scion iA Sedan is a subcompact offering that is affordable and full of fun features. The 2016 Scion iM Hatchback, while not quite as impressive as its sibling sedan, still offers a lot for the money.

The 2016 Scion iA also offers a great interior experience, compare it to the Honda Fit and the Ford Fiesta. For the hatchback iM, this one has almost the worst acceleration in its class as compared to the Ford Focus, Mazda 3 and Kia Forte 5, but you do get better standard features.

The 2016 Scion iA comes in one trim only and the same goes for the 2016 Scion iM, which is a hatchback designed for five passengers.

The features on the iA include 16-inch alloy wheels, keyless ignition and entry, cruise control, a low-speed forward collision warning system with braking, full power accessories, tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel and a60/40-split folding rear seats configuration.

For the techie, goodies that the main buyers of this compact car will demand, there is a rearview camera, seven-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth phone and audio connect and Internet streaming radio and voice recognition. A navigation system is also an option.

On the iM, the standard features include 17-inch alloy wheels, LED running lights, automatic headlights, power-folding heated mirrors, all power accessories, keyless ignition and entry, dual-zone automatic climate, tilt-and-telescoping, leather-wrapped steering wheel, cruise control and the 60/40-split folding rear seats. There is also the rearview camera, Bluetooth phone and audio connect, seven-inch touchscreen and six speakers with HD radio, Aha streaming Internet radio and one USB connect.

If you want add ons for the iM, there is navigation and ambient lighting. For better performance on the iM, you can choose the Toyota Racing Development package with an air filter and sturdier springs and sway bars.

The iM will give you a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that is a standard six-speed manual, or you can opt for a continuously variable transmission. It is 137 horsepower and 126 pound-feet of torque with front wheel drive.

The 2016 Scion iA has a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 106 horsepower and 103 pound-feet of torque. Again, using the front wheels you get a six-speed manual transmission, but you can opt for a six-speed automatic instead.

Safety is comparable on both Scions including antilock brakes, traction and stability control, front-seat side airbags and side curtain airbags on the iM along with a front passenger seat cushion airbag. The iA also has a variety of airbags all around and offers low-speed forward collision warning with brakes that automatically stop for you.

In the iA, you will find the interior fine and comfortable and the knobs and buttons are in the perfect locations. On the iA, the touchscreen is perfectly aligned and there are no complaints on the iM touchscreen either.

For moving things from point A to B, cargo space on the sedan is a mere 13.5 cubic feet with a little more room when you lower the back seats. The backseat is small and lacking head and leg room for taller passengers.

The iM hatchback ups the space and there are convenient nooks and crannies to stash items and drinks. The interior is soft and cushioned and it will accommodate the taller driver, but beware the backseat. The cargo space is 20.8 cubic and there is an upright hatch meaning more room for big items.

Neither Scion, the iA or the iM, stands out in the acceleration department. The iA does have a Sport button with the automatic transmission feature, but it’s still slower than one might need to get on the highway.

The iM is no better when it comes to taking the road, but both are hip, practical vehicles with smooth, quiet rides and for easy driving on a budget you couldn’t do much better.

Should You Need to Know: Both the Scion iA sedan and the iM hatchback are new in the Toyota lineup for 2016.

Miles Per Gallon: The 2016 Toyota Scion iA will give you 31 miles per gallon in the city and 41 miles per gallon on the highway. For the 2016 Toyota Scion iM you get 28 miles per gallon in the city and 37 miles per gallon on the highway.

Cost: The 2016 Toyota Scion iA has a price tag of $16,495 and the 2016 Toyota Scion iM a price tag of $20,334.
