Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump on Tuesday said Corey Lewandowski, his former campaign manager that he fired a day earlier, did a “great job” and that Mr. Lewandowski has “a great victory on his belt” with Mr. Trump’s win in the GOP primary contest.

“He’s a great guy, and he did a great job,” Mr. Trump said on “Fox and Friends.” “I couldn’t have been happier. We’re going in a different direction.”

“We ran a very lean, tight campaign — I spent less money than anybody else, essentially, and got the best result, which is what I think people want for president,” he said.

“I want to keep that going, but we have a little bit of a change of platform; we have a change of a lot of elements. There were some people that loved Corey. Some people didn’t like him as much [because] Corey was strong, and he was tough,” Mr. Trump said.

“I got to tell you though — [I’d] give him a 10,” he said. “Number one, he’s a great guy, and number two, he did a really great job. But now we’re finished with the primaries, which we won, so Corey has a great victory on his belt and. … I will be the first to tell you.”

“He can say ‘let Trump be Trump,’ but he managed beautifully,” Mr. Trump said. “Now we’re going a different way, we have a group of people, and it’s a little bit different. We’re going to be running a little bit different campaign.”

“At the same time, I will say this, we want to keep it lean,” Mr. Trump said. “I’m not looking to spend all this money. I hear people spend a billion dollars. How do you spend a billion dollars? It’s impossible. Politicians are the only ones that can spend a billion dollars.”

New campaign finance reports showed likely Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton started the month of June with about $42 million on hand, compared to about $1.3 million for Mr. Trump.
