ANALYSIS/OPINION:

Sen. Ted Cruz’s statement immediately after the Islamic State attacks in Brussels this week met the standard for mission guidance a U.S. president might give to the National Security Council. While Republican challenger Donald Trump fell back on old campaign rhetoric about waterboarding suspected terrorists, Mr. Cruz defined a clear vision for a long-overdue national security mission with his statement that “we need to kill terrorists and execute a coherent campaign to utterly destroy ISIS.”

Mr. Cruz has also emphasized the serious degradation of our armed forces’ combat readiness, a development caused by the Obama administration’s irresponsible defense cuts. Mr. Cruz is committed to reversing these cuts to ensure America’s continued leadership in the world and our capability to defend our vital interests both at home and abroad.
