COPPELL, Texas (AP) - Retail gasoline prices in Texas have retreated slightly from the $2 per gallon mark reached last week.

AAA Texas on Thursday reported prices at the pump slipped a penny this week statewide to $1.99 per gallon. Retail gasoline prices nationwide dropped 2 cents to an average $2.20 per gallon.

El Paso continues to have the most expensive gasoline across Texas at an average price this week of $2.07 per gallon. Drivers in Corpus Christi again have the cheapest gasoline at $1.93 per gallon.

Association officials say the $1.99 average price per gallon across Texas is 47 cents less than what drivers were paying a year ago.

Authorities attribute the price slippage to increased refinery production to meet record-high demand.
