LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) - An 18-year-old man has been shot and killed outside a Long Beach home where he was staying to help comfort a woman whose husband was recently killed.

Police Lt. Erik Herzog says Manuel Arechiga was found with a gunshot wound Tuesday in a walkway next to the home.

Letty Calderon, who lives in the house, says Arechiga was a family friend who would sometimes stay with her and her husband, who was killed three weeks ago.

She told KTTV-TV that Arechiga had been staying with her and her kids to help them after the previous killing.

Calderon did not give details on her husband’s death, but she says she fears the two killings are connected she is frightened for the rest of her family.

Herzog says there is no indication that a robbery or gang rivalry was involved in the killing.
