TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - A 23-year-old man has pleaded not guilty in the May shooting death of a 55-year-old Tupelo cab driver.

When arraigned Monday in Lee County Circuit Court, Leontay Gates entered pleas to capital murder as well as three other felony charges. Circuit Judge Jim Pounds ordered Gates held without bond.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (https://bit.ly/2f8yKwt) Assistant District Attorney Josh Wise said the state intends to seek the death penalty in this case.

Gates is accused of capital murder in the May 13 robbery and killing of cab driver Charlie “Boo” Williams. He is also accused of two Tupelo armed robberies while on the run before he surrendered to police in the early morning hours of May 16.
