ELIZABETH, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey man has pleaded not guilty to murder in the death of his girlfriend, whose body was found in his apartment last month.

Emmanuel Dike entered the plea during a court hearing Wednesday where the judge also rejected a defense request to reduce his $1 million bail.

The 22-year-old Hillside is charged in the death of 20-year-old Jersey City resident Christa Capers.

She was found unresponsive in Dike’s apartment on Oct. 20 after someone there called police. She was pronounced dead there a short time later, but a cause of death has not been determined.

Several law enforcement agencies quickly began an intensive search that spanned several states. It culminated Oct. 27 when a Hillside police officer saw Dike’s vehicle in the parking lot of a Newark hotel.
