GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) - A man who owns a private ranch where Montana wildlife officials spotted 13 grizzly bears together says he has seen large groups of bears before, but they have never caused trouble.

Rancher Dan Freeman tells the Great Falls Tribune (https://gftrib.com/2e3JGhy ) he saw a group of 10 bears in October on his ranch in the foothills of the Rocky Mountain Front southwest of Dupuyer.

He was not sure whether any of them were among the 13 radio-collared grizzly bears a Fish, Wildlife and Parks specialist saw and photographed the same month.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services grizzly bear biologist Wayne Kasworm says he’s never seen that many bears in one location in Montana.

Freeman says FWP officials gave him some bear spray after the 13 bears were seen on his property. He plans to carry it.
