MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - State police say a Hartford, Vermont, resident has died in a crash in Bridgewater as freezing rain caused dozens of crashes, traffic jams on interstates and closed schools.
The victim’s name in the deadly crash on Route 4 has not been released.
Traffic was at a stand-still for at least an hour on Interstate 89 near Montpelier Tuesday morning. WCAX-TV reports police said there was a crash just off an exit ramp in Montpelier and two people were taken to the hospital. Police said by mid-day there were nearly 50 crashes around the state.
Traffic also was backed up at Interstate 91 in the Sheffield Heights area. Route 4 in Bridgewater was closed due to that crash.
Most of the affected schools were in Orange, Orleans, Windham and Windsor counties.
