MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay (AP) - Uruguay’s soccer stadiums are quiet as the country’s soccer federation mourns the death of a fan.
The Uruguayan Football Association says it suspended all the weekend’s games due to the death of a 21-year-old fan who was shot to death in a soccer-related incident following a game on Sept. 28.
It says “there’s nothing more transcendent than the life of a human being” and urges the country’s fans to “think and reflect on what is the limit to the passion, admiration and sentiment for a football club.”
Hernan Fioritto, who had been in a coma since the shooting, died Friday.
