CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (AP) - State police have released the name of a hospital patient shot and killed last week after officials said he threatened workers and then responding officers with a knife.

Trooper Robert Hicks on Monday identified the patient as 64-year-old Dennis Kirk of Chambersburg.

Authorities said police responded to reports of an armed patient threatening workers at about 8 a.m. Thursday at Chambersburg Hospital, about 50 miles south of Harrisburg.

Hicks said earlier that officers made several attempts to subdue the patient, who then threatened them with the knife, so they fired, killing him.
