CROYDON, N.H. (AP) - Police say a Croydon woman has surrendered more than 20 Chihuahuas and a cat.

Police say the woman handed over the animals on Saturday.

New Hampshire Animal Rescue League president Monica Zulauf says some of the dogs are currently in the organization’s care in Bedford. She says two had to be put down and others are unable to walk.

Police Chief Richard Lee says no charges have been filed as of Monday but could be forthcoming.

Lee told The Valley News that there had been previous complaints about the woman and her husband, but police weren’t able to apply for a warrant to enter their residence. It’s unclear what conditions the animals had been living in.
