HONOLULU (AP) - Emergency crews are searching Maui waters for a hiker who fell about 20 feet from a sea cliff.

KHON-TV reports (https://bit.ly/2eCGjti ) that the man had been hiking with three friends along the Puka Maui Trail on Tuesday when they say he tumbled down the cliff and landed in the ocean. The group called for help.

Firefighters and ocean safety personnel were at the scene equipped with a helicopter, watercrafts and a boat to search for the man.

But high dangerous surf upward of 25 feet and dirty brown water had prevented rescuers from conducting an underwater search.

Crews were focusing search efforts on the surface of the water.
