SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Utah police say a 14-year-old and two 15-year-old males were in a stolen car that fatally hit an officer during a car chase.

West Valley City Police released the ages of the three suspects Tuesday as officers investigate whether the teens intentionally struck 25-year-old Officer Cody Brotherson.

He was outside this car, apparently to lay down a set of spike strips to stop the car by puncturing its tires when he was struck early Sunday morning.

The stolen car careened down an embankment and slammed into a fence. Police say the three male suspects ran, but were caught and taken into custody.

Salt Lake County’s Unified Police Department is investigating the death but hasn’t said what charges the teens might be facing.

Brotherson’s funeral will be held Monday morning after a viewing the night before.
