POWELL, Wyo. (AP) - Several fish have been killed by a silt spill caused by dam repair in Wyoming.

The Powell Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/2eUzZP0 ) that Willwood Irrigation District has been releasing sediment into the Shoshone River since lowering the pool behind the dam last month.

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department notified the Department of Environmental Quality of the silt issue on Oct. 18. Both the district and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, which owns the dam, received a water quality standards violation notice from the DEQ.

District Manager Todd Singbeil says they plan to contest the violation.
