WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - A Worcester woman charged with choking her 6-year-old daughter and holding the girl’s head underwater in a bath tub has pleaded not guilty.

The Telegram & Gazette (https://bit.ly/2fDuHaF ) reports that 25-year-old Nadia Orsei was released on personal recognizance after pleading not guilty in Superior Court to charges including assault and battery on a child causing injury, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and reckless endangerment.

Authorities say that in late May, Orsei put her hands around the girl’s neck, pushed her head underwater, punched her in the eye and kicked her in the chest.

Under conditions of release, Orsei is required to attend a substance abuse program.

Her court-appointed lawyer pointed out that Orsei is allowed to visit her daughter under Department of Children and Families supervision.
