DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a man accused of leaving his murder trial before jurors returned a guilty verdict is back in custody and now faces sentencing.

The DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office says 24-year-old Taiquan Mitchell of Atlanta is scheduled to be sentenced at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Decatur.

Mitchell was convicted in the January 2014 shooting death of Marcus Deanite Waters.

Authorities say Mitchell had been released on bond before his trial began and was wearing an ankle monitor, but failed to return to court Oct. 3 when the jury announced it had reached a verdict. Authorities determined that he had cut off the ankle monitor.

A fugitive squad located Mitchell several days later in Columbia, South Carolina.
