DETROIT (AP) - Federal authorities have charged a suburban Detroit official with demanding and taking bribes in exchange for his vote on contracts.

Clinton Township Trustee Dean Reynolds appeared Thursday in Detroit’s U.S. District Court after being arrested by the FBI. A criminal complaint says he’s accused of “engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity” and his arrest is part of a larger probe into what’s described as “systemic corruption” in several Macomb County communities.

Officials accuse him of accepting as much as $70,000 from a representative of a company that secured a contract with the township. They allege he also accepted $17,000 from an undercover agent.

The Associated Press left a message seeking comment from Reynolds‘ attorney, Stephen Rabaut.

If convicted, Reynolds faces up to 10 years in prison.
