ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A suspect fleeing Bernalillo County authorities is in custody after allegedly pinning a deputy with a stolen vehicle.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department says deputies conducted a traffic stop Friday around 9 p.m. in the Albuquerque area after a vehicle was seen going in reverse against traffic.

Authorities say the driver, 33-year-old Patrick Candelaria, then fled on foot.

Deputies initiated a pursuit and followed the suspect into a parking lot.

They say that’s when Candelaria attempted to carjack a vehicle and caused a crash, pinning a deputy into another car.

Deputy Felicia Romero says the injured deputy was taken to a hospital and treated for lacerations.

Candelaria was also treated for minor injuries.

He is expected to be booked on felony charges.

Romero says he also had outstanding misdemeanor warrants.
