PHOENIX (AP) - A man has been sentenced to natural life in prison for the fatal shooting of a Phoenix apartment owner in 2013.

Maricopa County Superior Court officials say Bobby Roydean Hoover was sentenced Monday.

He earlier had pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, burglary, theft, possession of dangerous drugs, misconduct involving weapons and interfering with a monitoring device.

Hoover was 31 at the time of the fatal shooting in February 2013.

Phoenix police say Steven Stair was serving apartments he owned with his wife.

He went to check on a light shining in a unit that was supposed to be vacant.

Stair retrieved a gun from his car because of past issues with trespassers.

Police say Stair confronted Hoover, who was inside burglarizing the apartment.

They say Hoover then fatally shot Stair.
