SOMERSET, Pa. (AP) - Authorities say an infant they allege was injured by a violent shaking has died at a western Pennsylvania hospital.
The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office said 3-month-old Liberty McDonald died at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. A ruling on the cause and manner of death hasn’t yet been made.
The child had been at the hospital since Sept. 25, when she was flown there from Somerset Hospital after treatment for multiple injuries.
Her father, 23-year-old Brandon Leer of Friedens, was charged earlier in Somerset County with aggravated assault and other counts. He waived his right to a preliminary hearing earlier this month. State police haven’t said whether he will face other charges following the child’s death.
Leer’s attorney declined immediate comment Monday evening.
