CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Police say a wrong-way driver was arrested after he caused a New Hampshire state trooper to swerve and crash into guardrails on Interstate 93 in Concord.

Police say Sgt. James Steinmetz was driving northbound around 1:30 a.m. Saturday when he encountered 28-year-old Gregory Dumais driving southbound. They say Steinmetz swerved to avoid a head-on collision and hit the guardrails in the breakdown lane.

Steinmetz was hospitalized with minor injuries.

Dumais, of Hillsboro, was charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless conduct. He was released from jail on $10,000 bail and will be arraigned on Oct. 28.

It wasn’t immediately known if he has an attorney and a phone number couldn’t be found for him.
