BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) - A federal judge has sentenced an accounting clerk for the Brownsville public schools’ cafeterias to two years in prison for stealing more than $330,000 from concession sales at four schools over six years.

U.S. District Judge Rolando Olvera also ordered Leticia Arreola on Wednesday to pay more than $330,000 in restitution. The 39-year-old Los Fresnos woman could have been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison and fined up to $250,000.

Arreola pleaded guilty on June 1 to theft concerning programs receiving federal funds.

Prosecutors say she was able to steal cash from money bags delivered to her when schools missed regular armored car service pickups. She also was accused of arranging for four schools to routinely make the deliveries to her.
