MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - FedEx has announced it will hire 2,500 seasonal workers in the Memphis area for the upcoming holiday season.

The Commercial Appeal (https://memne.ws/2eteIMF ) reports that a large portion of the new employees will be stationed at the FedEx Express world hub in the Memphis International Airport.

Senior manager of operations Walter Kirkeminde said Tuesday that the holiday hires will be an addition to about 11,000 people currently staffed at the world hub.

The company is hiring more than 50,000 workers nationwide and expects the four Mondays after Thanksgiving to be among the busiest in its history.

FedEx and five other companies say they’ll hire more than 12,000 workers in the Memphis area this fall.
