MAYS LANDING, N.J. (AP) - A man who allegedly beat a New Jersey couple in their home last year has been indicted on murder and attempted murder charges.
Atlantic County prosecutors say Nicholas Abbati also faces a weapons charge in the indictment that was recently handed up by a county grand jury. His bail was set at $1 million cash and it wasn’t known Sunday if he’s retained an attorney.
The 27-year-old Egg Harbor Township man could face a life sentence if convicted on the murder count.
The charges against him stem from a Dec. 23 attack inside a Pleasantville home. Prosecutors say 30-year-old Jahlil Hunter suffered blunt force head injuries and died nearly two weeks later, while a 22-year-old woman was hospitalized in intensive care.
A motive for the attack has not been disclosed.
