BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - A letter carrier has been accused of dumping ballot guides in a recycling bin in Berkeley.

U.S. Postal Service Office of the Inspector General officials told KNTV-TV (https://bit.ly/2dtnEVd ) that an investigation was launched last week after 96 ballot guides were found in the recycling bin. Investigators retrieved the packets and delivered them to their addresses the next day.

Officials say inspectors have interviewed the letter carrier responsible and that they hope to deliver the final report to the U.S. Attorney and U.S. Post Office next week.

The mail carrier could face termination as well as criminal charges for his or her actions.
