SKANEATELES, N.Y. (AP) - A Cortland County woman has pleaded guilty and paid $400 in fines for a boating accident in the Finger Lakes that maimed her 8-year-old stepdaughter.

Authorities say 33-year-old Jamie Wheeler of Homer was operating a 17-foot Bayliner on Skaneateles Lake on July 6 when the boat’s propeller struck her husband and stepdaughter. The two had been thrown into the water when the inner tube they were riding behind the boat hit a wake.

The girl lost an arm and a leg and has undergone several surgeries since the July accident.

The Auburn Citizen reports (https://bit.ly/2eC6VMI ) Wheeler pleaded guilty to five boating infractions in Skaneateles Town Court on Wednesday.
