LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - Lubbock police say a man shot a person who tried to start a fire after breaking into his home.

Police say the burglary suspect was shot in the stomach early Sunday morning. He was taken to the hospital with injures that weren’t life-threatening.

Police say the family told police they were sleeping when the suspect broke in.

Police say the father said he warned the suspect that he had a gun, police were on the way and he should leave.

The father told police that the suspect then poured lighter fluid on the floor and tried to light it. The father says he told the suspect to stop or he would shoot, but the suspect began approaching him until he could no longer back up. The suspect was then shot.
