LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (AP) - A grand jury has indicted a 24-year-old man on manslaughter and assault charges for a boat crash that killed an 8-year-old girl who was vacationing at Lake George in the southern Adirondacks.

Warren County District Attorney Kate Hogan says Monday that Alexander West of Lake George also faces a charge of boating while impaired by drugs and alcohol. The July 29 crash killed Charlotte McCue of Carlsbad, California, and seriously injured her mother.

Investigators believe West and friends had spent all day drinking at the annual Log Bay Day party before his boat ran over the one McCue was riding in. West initially was charged with leaving the scene of the crash.

West will be arraigned Wednesday morning. His lawyer didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment.
