BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) - The Bay St. Louis City Council is talking with Hancock County Sheriff Ricky Adam about the possible consolidation of the city’s police department and the sheriff’s office.

Council President Lonnie Falgout tells The Sun Herald (https://bit.ly/2enqPj4) last week’s discussion was not about one particular place or department.

Falgout said Councilman Joey Boudin had asked him to seek information from Adam about the sheriff’s agreement with Diamondhead.

Adam said his office provides manpower and Diamondhead provides all equipment, vehicles and weapons. He says the city saves around $500,000 a year.

Adam estimates Bay St. Louis could save about $565,000 a year by cutting staff and reducing pay.

City officials did not say if or when they might act on a possible consolidation.
