NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - A former assistant vice president at a New Jersey bank who embezzled more than $1 million has been sentenced to nearly seven years in prison.

Miye Chon, also known as Karen Chon, received an 81-month sentence Tuesday.

Chon pleaded guilty in March to bank fraud, aggravated identity theft and embezzlement or misapplication of funds by a bank officer or employee. She must pay $1,350,081 in restitution.

Federal prosecutors say the 36-year-old Englewood Cliffs resident worked for BankAsiana until it was acquired by another bank in October 2013. They say the embezzlement occurred over several years.

Chon had access to customer accounts and the bank’s internal account records, computer system and vault. Prosecutors say she regularly made unauthorized transfers among accounts, and then physically removed cash from the bank’s vault.
