PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) - A 33-year-old man faces charges in the fatal hit-and-run death of a 79-year-old homeless woman in Port Huron.

The Times Herald of Port Huron reports (https://bwne.ws/2eJsLyw ) that Matthew Jarvis waived a probable cause hearing Tuesday.

Jarvis was arrested last week and charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in serious impairment or death.

Eleanor Denise Smith was struck by a vehicle and found Sept. 2, 2015. She died a short time later.

The newspaper reports that Port Huron police received information earlier this month about the case.

Jarvis’ girlfriend, 40-year-old Ann Marie Chubb is charged with lying to police during a criminal investigation.
