ERIE, Pa. (AP) - A Pennsylvania amusement park near Lake Erie plans to include a history lesson about a key battle in the War of 1812 in a planned expansion of its water park.

The Erie Times-News (https://bit.ly/2dSoYQ2 ) reports that Waldameer Park & Water World will include historical references in the multimillion-dollar “The Battle of Lake Erie” project.

CEO Paul Nelson says it should be open by late May. It will include 102 water attractions and seven slides, among other features. The new feature is being built on vacant land between the park’s wave pool and the Kidz Zone, a special water area for younger children.

The Battle of Lake Erie occurred in September 1813 and helped the United States seize control of the lake from the British.
