SUPERIOR, Wis. (AP) - No one was hurt when four train cars derailed just south of Superior, spilling a non-toxic chemical.

The derailment about 12:40 a.m. Tuesday prompted authorities to shut down state Highway 35 for about five hours.

Authorities said a non-toxic, flammable chemical leaked. It wasn’t immediately clear what the substance was. Cleanup was underway. Superior Fire Department Battalion Chief Erik Sutton said there was no threat to public safety.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Emergency Management Team and Superior Fire Department were investigating.
