SALISBURY CENTER, N.Y. (AP) - State Police continue to investigate the shooting death of a 25-year-old upstate New York woman nearly a half-century ago.

Troopers say Donna Lee Hart of Salisbury Center, Herkimer County, was shot four times in an upstairs bedroom of her home on Aug. 8, 1968.

Investigators say Hart had spotted the intruder, who was wearing a stocking mask, trying to break in and had called her father for help. When he arrived, he heard several gunshots inside and found her body in an upstairs bedroom.

Authorities say the killer ripped open the doors of the closet where Hart was hiding, shot her, then eluded her father and escaped out the front door.

The .22-caliber semi-automatic pistol used to commit the murder has never been recovered.
