MIDDLETOWN, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a pedestrian was hit and killed while walking near a private school in New Jersey.

Middletown Detective Lt. Paul Bailey says a vehicle struck the person in front of Christian Brothers Academy in Middletown on Wednesday afternoon.

Officials say the driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the police investigation.

Investigators haven’t released the person’s age but say the person wasn’t a student at the school. Police aren’t identifying the pedestrian until family members can be notified.
