WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - An environmental group on Bald Head Island says a humpback whale has died after washing ashore.
BHI Conservancy posted a statement to social media saying the whale washed ashore Thursday and died around 6 p.m. It’s estimated by the group that the humpback whale was 8 months old and measured 28 feet long.
Conservancy officials couldn’t be reached for additional comment on Friday.
The mammal stranding team from UNC Wilmington was performing a necropsy to determine the exact cause of death.
