GILFORD, N.H. (AP) - The attorney for a New Hampshire man charged with sex assault says his client was killed in a crash during the trial.

Police say officers had attempted to stop a man who was driving recklessly in a construction zone after 1 p.m. Thursday in Gilford.

Police say the driver traveled off the end of the bypass on U.S. Route 3 and slammed through the town’s reflective barriers and a fence before crashing into an embankment.

He was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Defense attorney James Moir tells WMUR-TV police told him his client, Steven Price, died in the crash. Price was facing aggravated felonious sexual assault charges.

Moir says the trial had broken for lunch. Price didn’t return when the court came back into session.
