JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - A New Jersey man has been convicted of gunning down a Kearny man during an armed robbery at the victim’s jewelry store seven years ago.
The Jersey Journal (https://bit.ly/2e389lx ) reports that 58-year-old John DeRosa, of Bloomfield, was found guilty in Jersey City on Thursday of charges including murder and armed robbery in the Aug. 18, 2009 killing of 47-year-old Xavier Egoavil.
DeRosa faces up to life in prison when he’s sentenced on Dec. 9.
Prosecutors say DeRosa and another man entered the Kearny store and announced a robbery. They say Egoavil scuffled with DeRosa, who then opened fire on Egoavil.
Authorities say the robbers stole jewelry and ran to a getaway car. The two other men involved pleaded guilty to robbery.
