ABBEVILLE, S.C. (AP) - The body of a man who disappeared more than seven months ago while fishing has been found by a private search team nearly 140 feet below the surface of Lake Russell.

Abbeville County Coroner Ronnie Ashley says an autopsy determined Mitchell Gibson drowned.

Ashley said in a news release that Gibson’s body was taken out of the lake Thursday afternoon.

A private team hired by Gibson’s family used a special sonar device to locate the body. Gibson disappeared on March 12. While his cellphone, coat, a life jacket and other items surfaced, he and his boat did not.

Authorities are still investigating Gibson’s death.
