GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) - Greensboro police say a local man wanted in connection with violent crimes in the area is in custody following a nine-hour standoff which included exchanges of gunfire.

Police spokeswoman Susan Danielsen said in a statement on Saturday that 34-year-old Vit Da Ha was located late Friday night. He barricaded himself inside an apartment and fired a semi-automatic weapon at police, who returned fire.

After using tear gas, officers entered the apartment and found Ha hiding in a rear room. He was taken into custody and eventually taken to the hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.

Danielsen said Ha is wanted in Greensboro, High Point and Guilford County on a variety of charges, and has a history of drugs and weapons arrests going back to 2001.
