ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) - A jury has convicted a central Minnesota man of killing his infant son.

The Stearns County jury on Friday found 34-year-old Robert Kaiser of Albany guilty of two counts of second-degree murder. The St. Cloud Times (https://on.sctimes.com/2dPm9Rn) reports jurors acquitted Kaiser of first-degree murder.

Kaiser faces up to 40 years in prison when he’s sentenced Jan. 12.

Kaiser was accused of shaking his 2-month-old son, William, causing fatal injuries in August 2014.

In closing arguments, defense attorney Scott Belfry said prosecutors had no direct evidence that Kaiser caused brain damage to his son. But prosecutor Josh Kannegieter told jurors that Kaiser is a proven liar who initially denied harming his son, then admitted harming him, then again denied it.
