AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine’s annual fall hunting season is about to get much worse for deer and a little bit easier for bears.

The season for hunting deer with firearms kicks off on Saturday with “resident only” day. The season resumes on Monday and lasts until Nov. 26.

Meanwhile, the season for pursuing bears with the use of hunting dogs ended on Friday.

The general bear hunting season lasts until Nov. 26, but most of the state bear hunt takes place with the use of bait or dogs. The bait season ended on Sept. 24.

The moose hunting season also resumes on Monday in some parts of the state. The part of the season that is based in southern, central and coastal Maine runs from Monday to Nov. 26.
