LAS VEGAS (AP) - The mother and aunt of a 9-year-old Las Vegas girl who died from a prescription drug overdose are facing murder charges.

Police arrested 40-year-old Kendra Hatch and Mylynda Hatch this week after a two-month investigation into Ryleigh Island’s Aug. 10 death.

Kendra Hatch, the mother, was booked into Clark County Detention Center on Wednesday. It was not immediately clear where Mylynda Hatch was being held.

Investigators say the two women gave Ryleigh painkillers for “symptoms related to an injury.”

The Clark County Coroner’s Office found that the girl died from hydrocodone and oxycodone intoxication. Pneumonia and staph bacteria also contributed to her death.

Police say paramedics went to the girl’s home Aug. 10 after she was found unresponsive.

Both women are due in court Monday.
