NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans is the site of a meeting that bills itself as the “largest international scientific conference on obesity and weight loss.”

Organizers say some of the studies to be presented look at whether bones affect metabolism, whether the hormone oxytocin (AHKS-ee-TOH-sin) can treat obesity, and whether policies such as warning labels and portion reduction have prevented obesity.

The conference, called ObesityWeek, runs from Sunday through Friday at New Orleans’ convention center. It features new research, treatment and prevention options. A news release says officials expect more than 5,000 clinicians, researchers, and people working in related fields such as fitness, nutrition, nursing and primary care.

It’s the fourth year that The Obesity Society and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery have met at the same time and place.
