GLEN BURNIE, Md. (AP) - Police say a man killed his 18-year-old girlfriend before trying to kill himself in Anne Arundel County.

Police say they believe 22-year-old Da’von Markell Mullins killed his girlfriend, Kayla Yow, in her Glen Burnie apartment on Friday before critically injuring himself. Police said that Mullins is in critical condition and under police guard at a hospital.

Police say they Mullins, of Baltimore, will be charged with murder. Police say the incident is an apparent homicide-attempted suicide.

They say a family member had asked police to check on Mullins at his girlfriend’s apartment after he sent several concerning text messages. Yow was confirmed dead at the scene.

Police say both of them appeared to suffer from upper body trauma. They say a handgun was recovered at the scene.
