SHAWSVILLE, Va. (AP) - A woman is recovering at home, two weeks after she fell down the side of a waterfall in Virginia and fractured three vertebrae.

The Roanoke Times (https://bit.ly/2doVMiD ) reports that 22-year-old Kalea Duke of Christianburg was hiking with her friend along the side of the steep 40-foot Styles Falls near Shawsville in Montgomery County on Sept. 19 when Duke tumbled into the water.

Duke’s friend, Kayla McGuire, was able to pull her from the water and ran to call for help.

After undergoing surgery and spending a week in the hospital, Duke is now at home. She’ll have to wear a brace for the next few months and go through physical therapy.

Duke says she’s not going to allow the experience to dissuade her from exploring in the future.
