PATERSON, N.J. (AP) - Murder charges have been filed in a fatal shooting that authorities initially thought was a suicide.

Paterson police say 23-year-old city resident Mickel Morgan also faces two weapons counts stemming from the death of Floyd Tigney. The 22-year-old Clifton man was found dead Sept. 18 in a Paterson home with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities say further investigation led them to question the initial conclusion that Tigney had killed himself. But they declined further comment on what led them to conclude the case was a homicide.

Morgan was informed of the charges at the Bergen County jail, where he’s being held on an unrelated weapons charge.

Authorities say Morgan and Tigney were acquaintances and that Morgan lived in the home where Tigney was found.
